Ministry of Education Warning! Segregation Seriously Harms You and the People around You

Ministry of Education Warning! Segregation Seriously Harms You and the People around You

28. 5. - 10. 6. 2011, Ministry of Culture of the CR, Nostitz Palace and NAPA Gallery, Prague

The exhibition sets itself an ambitious goal to contribute to draw attention to the complex problem of segregation, not only within the Czech system of education. It points at racism which may be hidden behind a seemingly neutral phrases contained in the discussion on segregation of the Roma from the rest of the “white“ society. The exhibiting artists don’t just stress that normal children must not end up in "special“ schools, but concentrate on mechanisms that allow the white population to isolate their Roma fellow citizens and pretend that this segregation is motivated by good will. Concurrently, this project offers the Roma community from a different perspective, this time seen by Romany eyes. Instead of stressing inadaptability and troublesome coexistence with the mainstream society, it focuses on positive values of the Roma lifestyle, thus holding up a mirror to the white majority.
